FAQs

What is iNAP?

iNAP is a non-surgical (no surgery required), at-home device used to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) (a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep due to airway blockage)

It uses a soft mouthpiece, thin tubing, and a quiet battery-powered console to create gentle suction (oral vacuum) inside the mouth. This helps keep your airway open while allowing you to breathe naturally through your nose, leading to more restful and uninterrupted sleep.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes, iNAP is available only with a prescription. A sleep specialist (doctor trained in sleep disorders) will evaluate your condition, often through a video consultation (telehealth), to determine if iNAP is suitable for you. This ensures safe and effective use of the therapy.

What's the difference between iNAP and CPAP?

CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure – a device that pushes air through a mask) uses pressurized air to keep the airway open during sleep.

In contrast, iNAP uses gentle suction (negative pressure) inside the mouth to move the tongue and soft tissues forward, reducing airway blockage without the need for a mask. It is generally quieter, more comfortable, easier to maintain, and more travel-friendly.

Can iNAP replace the CPAP that I currently use or tried using?

In many cases, yes. iNAP is designed as an alternative for patients who find CPAP difficult to tolerate due to discomfort, noise, or mask-related issues. However, suitability depends on your individual condition, so it is important to consult your doctor before switching therapies.

How long does the battery last?

Battery life depends on usage patterns and seal quality (how well the mouthpiece fits and maintains suction). On average, a fully charged battery can last up to 6 days, assuming nightly use of 7–8 hours. Regular charging ensures uninterrupted therapy.

How often should I change the disposables?

  • Oral interface and tubing: every 3 months
  • Dry pad: daily
  • Saliva container: every 6 months

(Disposables are components that require regular replacement to maintain hygiene, comfort, and device performance.)

I have a deviated septum and one side of my nose is blocked. Can I use iNAP?

If you are still able to breathe comfortably through your nose with your mouth closed, you may benefit from iNAP.

If the blockage is due to temporary conditions like colds or allergies, using a nasal spray (to relieve congestion) may help. For long-term issues, consult your doctor to assess suitability.

I have missing teeth. Can I use iNAP?

Yes, in many cases you can. The oral interface includes a lip shield (support structure) to help maintain suction. However, you need to have front teeth to properly hold the mouthpiece in place. Your doctor can evaluate if the fit will be effective for you.

Are there any published clinical studies?

Yes, multiple clinical studies (scientific research evaluating safety and effectiveness) have been conducted and published globally, including in the United States. These studies support the use of iNAP as a treatment option for OSA.

How do I achieve Negative Air Pressure?

Once the device is turned on and the mouthpiece is properly positioned, it typically takes about 10–15 seconds to create negative pressure (gentle suction) inside the mouth.

To improve effectiveness:

  • Gently draw suction as if using a straw
  • Position your tongue against the upper palate (roof of the mouth), just behind your front teeth

This helps stabilize the tongue and soft tissues.

How to improve the seal?

  • Ensure all connections (tubing, console, container) are secure and leak-free
  • Avoid mouth breathing (often caused by nasal blockage)
  • Use a nasal decongestant if needed
  • Check if the mouthpiece size is appropriate
  • Consider using a chin strap (to keep the mouth closed during sleep)

A good seal is essential for effective therapy.

How to prevent the oral interface from falling out?

  • Adjust the tubing length to minimize pulling during sleep
  • Clip the tubing to your clothing or bedding
  • Use a chin strap for added stability, especially during early use
  • Check if a different mouthpiece size provides a better fit

Proper positioning and fit improve comfort and effectiveness.

I have difficulty sleeping with a foreign object in my mouth. What can I do?

It’s common to feel this way initially. Try:

  • Practicing with the device during the day (while reading or watching TV)
  • Gradually increasing usage time each night
  • Allowing a few days to weeks for adjustment (acclimatization period)

If discomfort continues, consult your doctor for guidance.

How do I clean the iNAP and accessories?

  • Rinse the mouthpiece with cold water after each use until clean
  • Run water through the tubing until it is clear
  • Use a dental cleaning tablet (for deeper cleaning) once a week

Proper cleaning helps maintain hygiene and extends the life of the device.

I am not noticing any improvement in my sleep quality or snoring. What can I do?

  • Ensure the device is properly fitted and sealed
  • Use the device consistently every night
  • Allow time for adjustment (it may take a few weeks)
  • Consult your doctor for possible setting adjustments (stronger suction may be needed)

Keep in mind that poor sleep can have multiple causes, so a full evaluation may be helpful.
